Former Manchester United defender Quinton Fortune has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo could make a sensational return to Old Trafford - not as a player, but as a part owner of the club.
Speaking to BoyleSports, Fortune expressed his belief that Ronaldo's deep connection with Manchester United could lead to a future ownership role. "At Manchester United, I could see him as a part owner," Fortune stated. "Financially, anything is possible because he loves the club. The club still loves him with the amazing memories he created there."
Fortune added, "If he got an opportunity behind the scenes, I think he'd jump to be a part of it."
Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, has had two memorable stints at Manchester United. He first joined the Red Devils in 2003 under Sir Alex Ferguson's management, where he developed into one of the world's best players, scoring 118 goals and winning three consecutive Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy. During this period, he also claimed his first Ballon d'Or award.
The Portuguese superstar returned to United in 2021 after successful spells at Real Madrid and Juventus. However, his second stint was shorter and more turbulent, lasting just one and a half seasons. He scored 27 goals before a falling out with then-manager Erik ten Hag led to his departure to Al-Nassr in December 2022 as a free agent.
Reports suggest that clubs in Brazil and Saudi Arabia are interested in signing the 40-year-old forward if he decides to leave his current team. However, Fortune's comments hint at a potential post-playing career path for Ronaldo that would maintain his connection to Manchester United in a different capacity.
Given Ronaldo's business acumen and global brand, a move into club ownership would align with the career trajectories of other football legends who have transitioned into executive roles after hanging up their boots.
