Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has insisted he will not quit his position despite the club's disappointing 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.
Brennan Johnson's first-half goal proved decisive as Tottenham ended their 17-year trophy drought, while Manchester United's dismal season reached another low point.
Speaking after the match, Amorim addressed speculation about his future, stating: "In this moment, I am not here to defend myself. It's not my style. I have nothing to show to the fans. In this moment [I need] a little bit of faith."
The Portuguese manager made it clear that while he would accept being sacked, he has no intention of resigning. "I am always open. If the board and the fans feel I'm not the right guy, I will go in the next day. But I will not quit again. I am confident in my job. As you see, I will not change anything in the way I do things," Amorim declared.
The defeat in the Europa League final compounds what has been one of Manchester United's worst campaigns in recent history. The Red Devils are set to finish in a disappointing 16th place in the Premier League, marking a significant regression for a club of their stature.
For Tottenham, the victory represents a significant achievement, ending nearly two decades without silverware and providing a major boost to manager Ange Postecoglou's project at the North London club.
As the season draws to a close, Manchester United's hierarchy now faces crucial decisions regarding Amorim's future and the extensive rebuilding needed to restore the club to its former glory.
