Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has absolved President Bola Tinubu of blame for Nigeria's current economic challenges, insisting that the president deserves nationwide support to navigate the country through difficult times.
Speaking to State House correspondents on Tuesday after meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Governor Eno emphasized that the economic difficulties predated the Tinubu administration.
"President Tinubu didn't create the problem we are in right now. For me, I believe he is doing his best, and he should be supported to finish strong," Eno stated.
The governor described Tinubu's first two years in office as "wonderful" and characterized by determined efforts to address inherited challenges. His comments come as the administration marks its second anniversary amid ongoing economic reforms that have drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians.
During the briefing, Governor Eno also highlighted achievements of his own two-year administration in Akwa Ibom State, pointing to progress in education, healthcare, road infrastructure, and rural development initiatives.
According to the governor, while the first phase of his administration focused primarily on grassroots development, the second half of his tenure will usher in major infrastructure projects aimed at positioning Akwa Ibom as an economic and tourist destination.
The governor's remarks align with calls from various quarters for patience with the economic reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration, which has faced criticism over rising inflation and cost of living challenges affecting many Nigerians.
