Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has launched a scathing attack on his old club, declaring that the Gunners have failed under manager Mikel Arteta this season after another trophyless campaign.

The French World Cup winner expressed his frustration following Arsenal's elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, a result that prompted mockery from rival fans.

"After we lost against Paris Saint-Germain, the fans were mocking Arsenal because of that," Petit told Casinozonderlimiet. "It's the same in England, you know, Arsenal are a good team, a good club, but everyone says that they are not one of the top clubs in Europe in terms of history."

Petit, who won the Premier League and FA Cup double with Arsenal in 1998, didn't hold back in his assessment of the current situation at the Emirates Stadium.

"That is because they have failed and I am tired of it," he stated emphatically. "This team needs to change the situation and win something, they need to compete until the end and not just at the start."

The 54-year-old's comments highlight the growing pressure on Arsenal to deliver silverware after promising campaigns that ultimately ended without trophies. Despite showing improvement under Arteta's leadership, the North London club has fallen short of claiming major honors.

Petit suggested that Arsenal must strengthen their squad during the upcoming summer transfer window if they hope to compete for trophies next season. The Gunners will have to wait until the 2025/26 campaign for another opportunity to end their trophy drought.

Arsenal's elimination from the Champions League, coupled with their inability to secure the Premier League title, has once again raised questions about whether the team has the mental fortitude and quality to overcome the final hurdles in major competitions.

As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Arteta and the Arsenal hierarchy to see what reinforcements will be brought in to address the issues that have prevented the club from adding to their trophy cabinet.
