Crisis has erupted within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State as a faction has approached the court seeking to nullify the results of recently conducted local government and state congresses.
The aggrieved faction, operating under the name "Committee for Ensuring Justice and Privileges" and led by Alhaji Abba Anas Adamu, has accused the party leadership of conducting congresses that violate both internal party regulations and democratic principles.
Speaking to journalists after Tuesday's court proceedings at the High Court in Dutse, Alhaji Adamu expressed strong dissatisfaction with the organization of the elections, claiming the entire process lacked transparency and deviated from constitutional procedures.
"The leadership of the party is being controlled by a single individual who denies other members their rights and privileges," Adamu alleged, emphasizing that many loyal party members were sidelined during the exercise, which he described as marred by irregularities.
The faction further claimed that some local government congresses were conducted in private residences rather than at approved venues, while the state congress allegedly amounted to mere appointments rather than a democratic electoral process.
Based on these allegations of gross procedural violations, the group has petitioned the court to invalidate the outcomes of the congresses. The case has been adjourned to May 28, 2025, for further hearing.
Adamu issued a warning that failure to address these alleged injustices could escalate tensions within the party and potentially threaten its unity in Jigawa State.
This internal conflict emerges at a time when the PDP is working to strengthen its position in Jigawa, where Governor Namadi had previously claimed the party's days were numbered in the state.
