Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim reportedly contemplated resigning from his position in January, just two months after his appointment, according to ESPN reports.

The 40-year-old Portuguese tactician, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024, was allegedly ready to walk away following a disappointing start that saw him win just one match in his opening eight games.

Sources indicate that after a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, Amorim was prepared to resign but was "talked out of the idea by associates." Despite choosing to remain at Old Trafford, the team's performance has shown minimal improvement.

Under Amorim's leadership, Manchester United has suffered 13 defeats in 25 Premier League matches, a record that has reportedly left the manager "really embarrassed" about the team's performance.

However, there remains a silver lining to an otherwise challenging season. Amorim has successfully guided the Red Devils to the Europa League final, where they will face Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur. A victory would not only secure silverware for the club but also guarantee Champions League qualification for next season.

After considering his options early in the year, Amorim reportedly "had to be reassured by senior figures at the club, including CEO Omar Berrada, that he would be backed to turn the team's fortunes around."

The upcoming Europa League final now represents a crucial opportunity for Amorim to salvage Manchester United's season and potentially secure his future at the club.
