Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has delivered a stark assessment of his old club's current squad, claiming they lack the depth required to win major trophies.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Wright urged the Gunners to maximize the upcoming summer transfer window if they hope to challenge for top honors next season.
"They want to win the Premier League. They want to win the Champions League," Wright stated. "The squad is nowhere near deep enough to go into those competitions with the confidence of winning them."
The Arsenal legend's comments come after a challenging season for Mikel Arteta's side, who have secured a second-place finish in the Premier League behind champions Liverpool.
Wright's critique aligns with reports that Arsenal are actively seeking reinforcements, with the club reportedly targeting a striker, defensive midfielder, and winger during the summer transfer window.
Despite their impressive league position, Wright believes substantial investment is needed if Arsenal are to bridge the gap to Liverpool and mount serious challenges across multiple competitions next season.
The Gunners have shown significant improvement under Arteta's management but have fallen short of securing major silverware this campaign, with Wright suggesting that squad depth has been a limiting factor in their pursuit of trophies.
