The newly appointed Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State, Mitchell Ofoyefu, has issued a stern warning to drug barons operating in the state, vowing that the agency will not stand by while criminal elements exploit the state and destroy lives through illicit drug activities.

Speaking to journalists on Monday in Benin City, Commander Ofoyefu outlined his mandate to combat illicit cannabis cultivation, drug trafficking, and drug-related crimes in the state, in full compliance with the operational directives of NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammad Buba Marwa.

"Drugs are fundamentally connected to criminal activity and pose serious risks to society. As experts in drug control, we have a responsibility to safeguard members of the public, especially the youths, from the harmful consequences of drugs," Ofoyefu stated.

The Commander emphasized that effective drug control would not only secure the future of young Nigerians but would also help prevent rising crime rates in Edo State. He issued a clear ultimatum to drug cartels operating in the region, warning them to cease their criminal activities or face imminent arrest and prosecution.

"We are committed to advancing the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign initiative of Gen Buba Marwa through supply control and demand reduction," he added, highlighting the agency's comprehensive approach to tackling the drug menace.

Ofoyefu called for public cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse, noting that the support of all citizens is crucial for the success of this important battle. The Commander's statements reflect the agency's renewed determination to rid Edo State of drug-related activities that have been linked to various crimes in the region.

This development comes as part of broader efforts by the NDLEA to intensify its operations across Nigeria, with particular focus on states known for cannabis cultivation and drug trafficking activities.
