Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has urged the club to strengthen its squad during the upcoming summer transfer window, stressing that the Gunners need to be challenging for major trophies.
The England international made these comments following Arsenal's 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, where he scored the decisive second-half goal.
"Hopefully we strengthen in the summer, we sign more players, because we are probably going to lose a few," Rice told Sky Sports in his post-match interview. "With the team we have got, with the manager we have got, we need to be competing for titles."
Rice expressed confidence about Arsenal's prospects for the coming season, adding: "Next year, we will be back."
The midfielder's comments come as Arsenal faces another season without silverware. Despite showing promise under manager Mikel Arteta, the North London club failed to secure the Premier League title and was eliminated from the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.
Rice, who joined Arsenal in a high-profile move, has been a standout performer for the Gunners this season. His leadership on the pitch was evident as he captained the side against Newcastle and delivered the winning goal.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal fans will be eager to see which players the club targets to strengthen the squad and mount a more sustained challenge for major honors next season.
