The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a significant milestone of 120,000,040 million National Identity Number (NIN) enrolments for citizens and legal residents, while also providing clarification on its recent service price review.
NIMC Director-General, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, made this known during a press conference held on Wednesday. She highlighted the commission's efforts to expand infrastructure capacity over the past 24 months to better serve Nigerians.
According to Coker-Odusote, the commission has successfully reduced corruption within the agency by 40 percent. Addressing the recent price adjustments implemented on May 1, 2025, she explained that the review was necessary to address inconsistencies in the pricing structure.
"There were some prices that were too much, so what we did was to remove them. There were all sorts of prices over there. People were extorting citizens with outrageous prices," she stated.
The Director-General emphasized that NIN enrolment remains free for all citizens. However, data modification services now attract higher fees, while verification services have seen price reductions.
"In terms of verification, the prices were reviewed downwards but upwards in terms of modifications," Coker-Odusote clarified.
The revised price framework includes an increase in the fee for date of birth corrections from N16,340 to N28,574. Similarly, NIN retrieval service via Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) now costs N50, up from the previous N20.
This price review comes as the commission continues to expand its services and improve identity management infrastructure across the country, with the primary goal of ensuring all Nigerians have access to reliable identity documentation.
