The Niger State Police Command has successfully apprehended five suspects in connection with robbery and trafficking of stolen phones, according to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
On May 9, 2025, police operatives attached to Maje Division intercepted and arrested 27-year-old Richard Maiungwan Dikko along Kwanba Antenna Area of Suleja. Dikko was found in possession of a Bajaj motorcycle at the time of his arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Dikko had snatched a phone from a shop attendant while pretending to make a purchase. A search conducted on the suspect yielded five Android phones, including the recently stolen device.
Further investigation by the police led to the arrest of four additional suspects identified as receivers of the stolen phones. The suspects include David Raymond, 29, Emmanuel Alfred, 33, Izochukwu Raymond, 31, and Tunchi Amos, 28.
SP Abiodun disclosed that a total of eleven Samsung phones and 14 other mobile devices were recovered from Emmanuel Alfred's shop in Maraba. The suspect could not provide any documentation to prove the legitimate acquisition of these devices.
One of the receivers, David Raymond, reportedly confessed to purchasing over 30 phones from Richard Dikko. The police also recovered two additional motorcycles believed to have been used in the criminal operations.
All five suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation. The police have not yet announced when the suspects will be charged to court.
This arrest comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Niger State Police Command to combat robbery and the trafficking of stolen goods in the state.
