Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has criticized Arsenal's David Raya, stating that the Spanish goalkeeper needs to "step up his game" despite possessing "all the attributes and qualities" required for success in the Premier League.

Speaking to Optus Sport, the Dutch goalkeeping legend shared his thoughts on his favorite current Premier League goalkeepers, naming Liverpool's Alisson Becker, Manchester City's Ederson, and Brighton's young Dutch shot-stopper Bart Verbruggen among his top picks.

"I like Alisson and Ederson, both of them," Van der Sar said. "But I think they are a little too much injured at the moment. They are not consistent."

The former Manchester United star expressed particular admiration for his compatriot Verbruggen, adding: "I like Bart Verbruggen. He is a young Dutch goalkeeper who is doing really well."

However, Van der Sar was less complimentary about Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper David Raya, suggesting that the Spaniard has yet to fully realize his potential at the Emirates Stadium.

"I expect a little bit more for Raya at Arsenal," he stated. "I think he has to step up his game a little bit more. He has all the attributes and the qualities but you have to be more decisive."

Interestingly, Verbruggen, who has impressed Van der Sar with his performances at Brighton, has recently been linked with a potential move to Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window, potentially following in the footsteps of the Dutch goalkeeping great.

Van der Sar's comments come as the Premier League season approaches its conclusion, with Arsenal still in contention for the title and Raya's performances under increasing scrutiny as the Gunners aim to secure their first league championship since 2004.
